Abstract
teaching physics concepts in junior high school is often hindered by students’ difficulties in grasping abstract ideas and declining motivation. this study aimed to investigate the impact of creative physics experiments on improving the conceptual understanding of pressure and density among ninth-grade students. a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest–posttest design was employed, with a sample of 60 students from imam musa sadr secondary school, district 4, tabriz, during the 2024–2025 academic year. the instructional intervention consisted of three creative experiments: “the swallowing balloon” (air pressure), “the magic of pins” (pressure and surface area), and “sink or float? the secret of density,” delivered over five one-hour sessions. data were collected using a researcher-developed 15-item multiple-choice questionnaire; specifically, nine items directly assessing the physics concepts of pressure and density were analyzed. findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ posttest mean scores (12.03 out of 15) compared to pretest scores (6.25), p < 0.001. these results strongly indicate that creative physics experiments, by providing hands-on, concrete experiences, significantly enhance students’ conceptual understanding of pressure and density. the study validates the practical applicability of this active learning approach in real classroom settings and offers a feasible, effective model for physics teachers to foster conceptual learning.
