Abstract
in recent decades, international transit and transportation have become one of the fundamental pillars of the maritime-based economy and one of the most important instruments for enhancing countries’ competitiveness within the global trading system. countries that have succeeded in creating efficient transit corridors through targeted investment in port infrastructure, land transportation networks, and intelligent logistics systems have not only benefited from direct economic gains, but have also strengthened their geopolitical standing in regional and international arenas. owing to its strategic geopolitical position at the intersection of the east–west and north–south corridors, iran possesses significant potential to serve as a regional transit hub. hormozgan province, as the country’s most important maritime gateway and home to strategic ports such as shahid rajaee port, plays a pivotal role in realizing this potential. nevertheless, an assessment of current performance indicates a substantial gap between the province’s latent transit capacity and its actual performance. adopting an analytical and policy-oriented approach, this paper provides an in-depth examination of the challenges, infrastructural and institutional requirements, a comparative analysis with jebel ali port, the impacts of sanctions, an assessment of the transportation network, investment scenarios, cost–benefit analysis, and the role of ton–kilometer charges in the development of transit in hormozgan province.
