Abstract
the growing global demand for chicken meat in recent decades has raised significant challengesregarding environmental sustainability. the poultry production chain includes several stages—feed production, rearing, slaughtering, processing, and packaging—each contributing differently to resource consumption andgreenhouse gas emissions. this review aims to comprehensively examine recent studies on life cycleassessment (lca) and environmental footprint across the poultry production chain and to introduce strategiesfor mitigating its adverse impacts. results indicate that the highest share of carbon emissions is attributed tofeed production and energy use, particularly soybean and corn cultivation and energy consumption in rearingfacilities. conversely, the use of alternative feed ingredients, renewable energy sources, smart technologies, and precision agriculture models can enhance sustainability throughout the entire chain. ultimately, interdisciplinary collaboration among animal science, food industry engineering, and energy engineering canfacilitate the development of a sustainable production chain aligned with the goals of green universities andcities
