green city and human-centered housing: analyzing the synergy of ecological, social, and psycho-spatial layers in residential complex design

Authors
Abstract    rapid urban expansion in iran over the past two decades has produced housing patterns that aredriven more by economic logics, construction speed, and technical requirements than by principles oflivability, social interaction, and ecological balance. the outcome has been a residential paradox:housing units that meet structural and mechanical standards yet exhibit significant deficiencies inlived experience, sense of belonging, social well-being, and psycho-spatial perception. this studyaims to analyze the mechanisms shaping residential livability and to examine the restorative role ofgreen architecture in addressing these deficiencies through a three-layer framework encompassingecological, social, and psycho-spatial dimensions.the research adopts a quantitative methodology based on statistical analysis. data were collectedfrom residents of urban housing complexes using standardized environmental quality and quality-oflife questionnaires, with samples selected through stratified random sampling. analyses wereperformed using spss and structural equation modeling (sem) in amos. findings reveal thatecological discontinuities, weak open-space systems, inefficient communal areas, and insufficientperceptual qualities—such as human scale, legibility, and spatial diversity—are the most influentialfactors contributing to declining residential quality. sem results indicate that the three componentsof ecological–physical quality, social–interactional quality, and perceptual–psycho-spatial qualitycollectively explain over 70% of the variance in residents’ quality of life. based on these results, thestudy highlights the necessity of redesigning residential complexes through an integrated, greenarchitecture-oriented approach in which green elements, active communal spaces, pedestrianfriendly circulation, visual diversity, and clear spatial organization are combined to enhance socialresilience, ecological value, and the experiential quality of housing.
