Abstract
this study investigated the recycling of gray water in the central building of maragheh university withthe aim of reducing water consumption and promoting environmental sustainability. gray water from sinks, bathrooms, and laundry units was treated using a combination of natural and advanced methods includingbiofilter, multilayer sand filter, chemical coagulation, adsorption, photocatalytic oxidation, and biologicaltreatment. sampling and physicochemical and microbial tests showed that this system removes 80-99% ofthe main pollutants including bod, cod, suspended solids, oil, grease, and harmful chemical compounds.the quality of the effluent water is acceptable according to national and international standards for nonpotable uses such as toilet flushing and green space irrigation, and its recycling can reduce the total waterconsumption of the building by 30-50%. the use of natural and advanced combined methods is technicallyand environmentally sustainable and has good social and economic acceptance. this project provides apractical model for sustainable water management in educational institutions and shows that greywaterrecycling can effectively contribute to reducing pressure on urban water resources.
