Abstract
the rapid growth of urbanization and the expansion of dense urban structures in recentdecades have had significant impacts on the quality of the urban environment. among theseimpacts, rising energy consumption and declining air quality are considered majorchallenges to urban sustainability. the development of urban green spaces, as an effectiveapproach, plays a key role in regulating microclimatic conditions, reducing temperatures, absorbing pollutants, and improving citizens’ quality of life. vegetation, by providing shade, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and enhancing natural ventilation, reduces thedemand for cooling systems and electricity consumption. in addition, plants significantlycontribute to reducing air pollution by absorbing carbon dioxide, particulate matter, andharmful gases. this article, using a descriptive–analytical method and based on crediblescientific sources, examines the direct and indirect effects of green space development onreducing energy consumption and improving urban air quality, and offers strategies for moreeffective planning in green space management. the findings indicate that smart green spacedesign, the use of climate-compatible plant species, and equitable distribution of green areasacross the city can serve as some of the most effective tools for sustainable urbanmanagement.
