an ecological management approach to the urban fabric of tabriz

Authors
Abstract    with the increasing development of cities, nature is fragmented into smaller patches, leading to a reduced level of connectivity among ecosystems. this fragmentation results in a decline in ecosystem services and biodiversity. recent studies indicate that the domains of urban development management and land use design can play key roles in preserving and enhancing biodiversity. the establishment and persistence of any species depend on a set of conditions and components, which are shaped by urban development policies and structures, as well as land use patterns. in recent years, the perspective of urban managers and environmental specialists has shifted away from purely physical and development-oriented approaches toward a deeper understanding of the role of ecosystems in urban sustainability. landscape ecologists and environmental planners have redefined land use planning policies and patterns to conserve and strengthen native ecosystem services and species, ensuring that the structure and dynamics of existing urban ecosystems are maintained and enhanced. in this fresh perspective, the city is not viewed as a collection of segregated spaces, but rather as a living, interwoven network of ecological spaces; where increasing the continuity and connectivity between these spaces signifies achieving a balance between human development and the continuation of natural life. this research aims to assess the current status and identify the ecological challenges affecting biodiversity within the urban fabric of tabriz. the dominant approach in this study involves landscape ecological analysis, conducted with the objective of determining the level of spatial connectivity and coherence among urban habitats.
