Abstract
titanium dioxide nanotubes are regarded as promising anode candidates for lithium-ion batteries due to their chemical stability, intrinsic safety, and negligible volume change during lithiation and delithiation. however, their practical performance is constrained by low electronic conductivity and limited lithium-ion diffusion, particularly at high charge–discharge rates. this review examines two major modification strategies—nitrogen doping and graphene incorporation—that have been widely explored to overcome these limitations. evidence from recent studies indicates that nitrogen doping introduces oxygen vacancies and mid-gap states, enhances electronic conductivity, and reduces charge-transfer resistance. in parallel, graphene provides highly conductive pathways and a large active surface area, leading to improved specific capacity, rate capability, and structural stability. a systematic comparison of the literature reveals that tio?–n/graphene hybrid structures outperform pristine tio? in terms of capacity retention, polarization behavior, and long-term cycling stability. overall, the synergistic application of non-metal doping and nanoscale carbon materials represents an effective and low-cost approach for developing high-performance and durable anodes for modern energy-storage systems.
