from symbolic ethics to the simulation of green consumption: analyzing baudrillardian hyperreality with emphasis on the strategic role of education

Authors
Abstract    green consumption and the logic of late capitalism: a hyperreal perspective in recent decades, green consumption has emerged as an ethical and responsible approach to addressing environmental crises. however, theoretical and empirical studies reveal that this phenomenon often faces fundamental contradictions. this research adopts a critical perspective, grounded in jean baudrillard’s theory of hyperreality, to analyze green consumption within the context of consumerism and late capitalism. findings indicate that green consumption often fails to transcend the level of a mere symbolic act, functioning instead as a form of moral simulation or sign consumption. media and advertising industries, through the continual production and reproduction of “green” images and signs, perpetuate this hyperreal condition. embracing this critical framework, the study argues that education plays a pivotal role in breaking this cycle of simulation. critical education can, by fostering media-environmental literacy, enhancing the ability to discern greenwashing, and promoting the ethics of genuine moral action instead of performative morality, pave the way for a transition from green consumption as an ethical pose to green consumption as authentic action. such a transition requires transformation in policymaking, media practices, and—most importantly—a radical redefinition of the role of education in the culture of consumption. would you like me to format it in an academic journal style (e.g., with abstract heading, keywords, etc.) or leave it as a simple translation?
