Abstract

link prediction in signed social networks plays a crucial role in identifying potential future relationships among users. in such networks, individuals are connected through trust and distrust relations, which can significantly influence their lifestyle, behavior, and decision-making. despite extensive research in this area, many existing methods fail to achieve satisfactory performance when facing challenges such as ambiguity in trust and distrust, data sparsity, and the incorporation of users’ descriptive features into predictive models. in this study, we propose a fuzzy computational model, lptd-pso, which integrates users’ descriptive features with a feature selection mechanism based on particle swarm optimization (pso) to predict trust and distrust links and to identify missing connections. this framework is both efficient and effective in addressing ambiguity and data sparsity issues commonly encountered in signed social networks. the pso algorithm is employed to extract meaningful features associated with trust and distrust from the available user attributes. to evaluate the performance of the proposed model, extensive experiments were conducted on the epinions and slashdot datasets, using accuracy, precision, f-measure, mean absolute error (mae), and root mean square error (rmse) as evaluation metrics. the results indicate that the proposed model achieves a trust-prediction accuracy of 0.938 on epinions and 0.945 on slashdot. additionally, the accuracy for distrust prediction reaches 0.922 on epinions and 0.94 on slashdot. these findings demonstrate that the lptd-pso model outperforms existing approaches, provides more accurate and reliable predictions, and effectively mitigates the data sparsity problem in signed social networks.
