Abstract    identifying each of the components and indicators affecting energy loss in a building is not sufficient alone and limits appropriate design decisions. most of the mutual changes of the indicators on each other provide the designer with wider choices. therefore, the aim of the present study is to find indicators and convergences of the dimensions and proportions of optimized openings that have a greater impact on reducing energy consumption. the research method is applied and combined, implemented through continuous steps. first, to determine the current and optimal energy conditions, the selected residential building was modeled in rhino 7 and the initial stage of energy simulation was carried out in the grasshopper environment using the honeybee plugin. then, other building indicators were assumed constant and the indicators related to opening dimensions and proportions were single-objective optimized in three modes (total, heating, and cooling energy) using the galapagos plugin. more than 2600 optimal cases were identified. linear regression and pearson correlation coefficient were applied to determine the most effective indicators and their convergence. the results show that the window-to-wall ratio (wwr) has a very strong correlation in all energy consumption modes, followed by width and then height. the ratios of width to okb and wwr to the average okb also show strong convergence with energy consumption. okb was not a suitable criterion for strong convergence with energy and other indicators in all modes.
