Abstract
|
today, financial decisions are transforming into behavioral challenges. thus, the skills andknowledge required for informed choices and the management of financial affairs areconsidered necessary. individuals with perfect knowledge of primary financial principles canlikely have wiser selections. financial literacy is a mix of the awareness, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed for financial decisions and leads to financial welfare.financial literacy, a tool for making rational decisions, enables individuals to understand thevalue of capital and maximize the benefits of its utilization in the long run. hence, financialliteracy is regarded as a logical decision-making instrument. if the investor fails to analyze thereceived data correctly, inevitable biases may develop. in psychologists’ mindsets, thiscondition happens when feelings overcome reasoning and reflection in making decisions for acertain behavior. in the behavioral-financial literature, behavioral biases have been defined asmaking systematic judgment mistakes and accepting numerous risks without having sufficientinformation. it can be argued that behavioral biases mirror investors’ intentions and objectivesfor replicating other investors’ behaviors.in financial markets, especially the stock exchange, investment requires logical decisionsand accurate analyses. however, many investors, especially the young community, areinfluenced by behavioral biases and impulsivity that can lead to incorrect decisions andfinancial losses. behavioral biases, defined as deviations rooted in psychologicalcharacteristics, explain individuals’ willingness to divert from logical decisions in theinvestment process. these diversions can originate from perceptive mistakes, personaldispositions, or social impacts and radically contribute to financial decisions. impulsivity isalso defined as one of the cognitive-behavioral properties and encompasses the tendency totake steps without adequate thinking, planning, and considering consequences. thisbehavioral trait can be influential in various situations, from daily decisions to riskybehaviors, and is examined in three main dimensions: cognitive, motor, and attentionalinstability. research has revealed that impulsivity is associated with conditions such asattention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (adhd) and risky behaviors. impulsivity can also enfeeble performance and reinforce social problems. thus, it is a chief psychological characteristic that can be observed both at a normal level and as a traumatic factor in some mental disorders.recognizing psychological dispositions in the investment domain is imperative and calls for extending the research scope. however, behavioral-financial studies mostly focus on cognitive psychology and behavioral biases and rarely examine the link between personality and behavioral-financial traits.considering what was explained and the dynamicity of the economic environment, especially financial markets, teaching financial literacy is indispensable. financial services get more intricate every day with the development and growing complexity of technology. hence, the main problem of the present research was whether teaching investment techniques could control behavioral biases and relieve impulsivity in young investors in the tehran stock exchange or not.
