a review on enhancing the performance of kinetic hydrate inhibitors

Pipeline blockages caused by gas hydrates are serious industrial problems and challenges. polymeric compounds as kinetic hydrate inhibitors (khis) due to their environmetally friendliness and low dosage requirement which can be improved by chemical modification is gaining increasing interest nowadays. the performance of khis depends on its chemical structure and this review provide an overview on modifying the polymeric compound structuresin order to boost their performance as khis. also the main aim of this research is to focus on the methods which can improve the khis to perform more efficiently and tackle plugging pipelines in the oil and gas flow assurance. after a short study on khis, first, the effect of some factors such as chain transfer agent, raft agent in the reaction mixture or some chemicals that have ability to functionalize the khis on enhancing the performance of polymers to exhibit more inhibition was investigated. then, the conjunctive use of khis and some materials such as polyethylene glycol (peg) to restrict hydrate formation was also reviewed.
