synthesis of polyfunctionalized 5-amino-7-(aryl)-6-cyano-8-nitro-1,2,3,7-tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives using cyanothioacetamide

A simple synthesis of polyfunctionalized imidazopyridine carbonitrile derivatives, via one-pot reaction of 2-cyanothioacetamide, 1,1-bis(methylthio)-2-nitroethene, 1,n-diamines, and aromatic aldehydes is described. this protocol involved michael reaction, imine-enamine tautomerization, and cyclization sequences with elimination of hydrogen sulfide. the present method offers desirable advantages including easy accessibility of reactants, mild conditions, absence of a catalyst, simple workup, and easy purification procedure.
