foresight and organizational transformation in higher education: comparative case studies of malaysian and indonesian universities

Deploying the foresight episteme, this paper examines the trajectories of two universities, one in malaysia, universiti sains malaysia (usm) and the other in indonesia, universitas muhammadiyah yogyakarta (umy). both universities have achieved the highest levels of accreditation based on their respective official national standards. the stages of organizational transformation towards these national recognition for each of them is mapped out. in the process, emergent realities and unintended consequences are then captured and further analyzed. among the key findings are that organizational manifestations such as visioning, contestation, equilibriumization, internalization/externalization as well as disruption become the stages or the dynamic social forces which eventuate into the present transformation.
