Variation of high molecular weight glutenin subunits (hmw-gs) at the glu-a1, glu-b1, and glu-d1 loci was studied using sds-page electrophorese in 17 genotypes and cultivars (pishgam, chinese spring, darab, kavir, parsi, mihan, vru-1382, vru-408, vru-468, vru-1626, vru-766, vru-765, vru-60, vru-912, vru-1464, vru-1801, and vru-2068. this study aimed to investigate the relationship between glutenin subunits and 1000-seed weight. a good result has obtained the correlation between 1000-seed weight and the null, 5+10, 2+12, and 7+8 alleles. a positive correlation was found between 1000-seed weight and 5+10 allele (r = 0.600), indicating that presence of this allele will increase 1000-seed weight. a negative correlation was found between 1000-seed weight and null, 2+12, and 7+8 alleles (-0.638, -0.595, and -0.508, respectively). genotypes with lower 1000-seed weight have null alleles, 1, 7+8, and 2+12. genotypes with higher 1000-seed weight have 2*, 1, 13+16, and 5+10 alleles. genotypes and cultivars with the least or the most distance can be used as candidate genotypes for heterosis in breeding programs. pishgam and parsi cultivars and vru-1382, veu-912, vru-60 and vru-765 genotypes with similarity coefficients of 0.636 and high 1000-seed weight and 2*, 5 + 10 and 1 glutenin subunits can be used in cross-breeding and hybridization programs to produce valuable heterosis or heterobiosis genotypes.
