In the present paper, the efficiency of 1,2-ethanediol (ethylene glycol) synthesis wasevaluated through formose reaction (fr)and in the presence of aerosil (fumedsilica) catalyst at methanol solvent andcompared with the synthesis of the samemolecule through the same reaction but inthe presence of montmorillonite at watersolvent. the results indicated that theamount of produced ethylene glycolthrough fr in the polar solvent ofmethanol will be lower in the presence ofa fumed silica catalyst than the polarsolvent of water in the presence ofmontmorillonite.
