   efl teachers’ professional development: the cases of skills, competences, and technology use for teaching grammar

چکیده    This study investigated the views of pre-service efl teachers about the competencies they need and the technologies they use for teaching grammar as well as the strategies they employ to motivate efl learners to learn grammar better. the data were obtained from 43 pre-service efl teachers at iran university of science and technology through three open-ended questions. the results indicated that pre-service teachers considered the knowledge of grammar, being competent in different aspects of language, and being creative significant competencies for teaching grammar. regarding the technologies efl teachers may benefit from in teaching grammar, the results revealed that the use of various applications and websites could be of great help. moreover, pre-service teachers held the view that contextualization and authentic tasks, raising students’ awareness about the significance of grammar, teaching through stories and songs, and using technologies in interesting and fun activities could motivate efl learners to acquire grammar.
