یکی از مهم‌ترین ﻣﺴﺎئل ﻗﺮن ﺣﺎﺿﺮ، ﻣساله ﮔﺮﻣﺎیش ﺟﻬﺎﻧﯽ اﺳﺖ. ﮔﺮﻣﺎیش ﺟﻬﺎﻧﯽ ﺑﻪ دﻟﯿﻞ اﺛﺮ ﮔﻠﺨﺎﻧﻪ‌ای ﺗﺸﺪید ﺷﺪه است و اﻧﺘﻈﺎر ﻣﯽ‌رود ﮐﻪ ﻣﻮﺟﺐ ﺗﻐﯿﯿﺮاﺗﯽ در ﻣﺘﻐﯿﺮﻫﺎی اﻗﻠﯿﻤﯽ ﻣﺨﺘﻠﻒ ﻧﻈﯿﺮ دﻣﺎ، ﺑﺎرش، رﻃﻮﺑﺖ ﻫﻮا و ﺗﺎﺑﺶ ﺧﻮرﺷﯿﺪی ﮔﺮدد. دﻣﺎی ﻫﻮا یکی از مهم‌ترین ﺷﺎﺧﺺﻫﺎی ﺗﻐﯿﯿﺮ اﻗﻠﯿﻢ در ﻣﻘﯿﺎس ﺟﻬﺎﻧﯽ و ﻣﻨﻄﻘﻪای اﺳﺖ. اﻟﮕﻮﻫﺎی ﻣﮑﺎﻧﯽ و زﻣﺎﻧﯽ این ﺗﻐﯿﯿﺮات به‌صورت ﮐﺎﻣﻞ ﻣﺸﺨﺺ ﻧﯿﺴﺘﻨﺪ و ﻣﻄﺎﻟﻌﺎت زیادی در ﺳﺮﺗﺎﺳﺮ دﻧﯿﺎ در این زﻣﯿﻨﻪ درﺣﺎل اﻧﺠﺎم است. مدل‌های اقلیمی نشان می‌دهند که دمای زمین در دهه‌های آتی افزایش خواهد یافت؛ با افزایش دما، نوع بارش به سوی بارش مایع تغییر می‌یابد و زمان ماندن آب در حوضه‌ها کاهش می‌یابد. کاهش میزان بارندگی سبب افزایش طول دوره خشک می‌شود و با افزایش دما، تبخیر نیز افزایش یافته و مقدار بیشتری از بارش‌‌های دریافتی از دسترس خارج می‌شود. تغییر اقلیم دارای عواقب گسترده برای زندگی بشر به‌ویژه کشاورزی، منابع آب، امنیت غذایی، محیط زیست، اقتصاد، سلامت، بهداشت، انرژی و امنیت ملی است که بیشترین تاثیر را روی زندگی انسان‌ها می‌گذارد. تغییرات اقلیمی به‌دلیل ویژگی ذاتی و بنیادی، اثرات غیرقابل انکاری بر امنیت ملی و مولفه‌های آن دارد. آثار تغییر اقلیم در زمینه یادشده می‌تواند در بسیاری از مناطق، ویرانگر باشد. هم‌اکنون بسیاری از مناطق این آثار را احساس می‌کنند که با زیاد شدن دمای میانگین و بی‌ثبات شدن اقلیم، این آثار به‌صورت تساعدی افزایش می‌یابند.
