Abstract
to investigate the effects of fulvic acid and putrescine on some morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics of 'shahani' grape seedlings under alkaline soil conditions, a factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications under pot and greenhouse conditions. the experiment consisted of two factors, including four concentrations of fulvic acid (0, 100, 200, and 300 mg l⁻¹) applied to the soil and four concentrations of putrescine (0, 1, 2, and 4 mm) applied as foliar sprays. the treatments were applied one month after the plants had become fully established in the pots. alkaline soil had negative effects on the vegetative characteristics of grapevines. leaf area increased by 5.1% with the application of 300 mg l⁻¹ fulvic acid compared with the control, while root length increased by 2.98% and 5.4% at putrescine concentrations of 2 and 4 mm, respectively, compared with the control. the highest chlorophyll a content was obtained with the combination of 200 mg l⁻¹ fulvic acid and 2 mm putrescine. proline content increased by 1.61- and 1.74-fold compared with the control with the application of 200 and 300 mg l⁻¹ fulvic acid, respectively, in combination with 4 mm putrescine. increasing fulvic acid and putrescine concentrations increased guaiacol peroxidase activity. the findings of this study showed that fulvic acid and putrescine treatments were effective in mitigating the effects of alkaline stress in 'shahani' grape and could have positive effects on the growth and development of this grape cultivar.
