Abstract    lime (citrus aurantifolia) is a hybrid tree that is tolerant to cold and requires sufficient light and moisture. since salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses that adversely affects citrus growth, providing appropriate strategies to reduce and mitigate its harmful effects can be effective. to investigate the effects of saline water and potassium phosphite on lime plants, a factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with three replications under pot conditions in 2022 in the greenhouse of the university of hormozgan. the treatments included salinity at 1, 3.5, 4.5, and 6 ds m⁻¹ and potassium phosphite at 0, 1.5, and 3 g l⁻¹. the evaluated parameters included fresh and dry weight of shoots and roots, uptake of macronutrients by roots and leaves, and uptake of micronutrients by leaves. the results showed that salinity of 6 ds m⁻¹, compared with 1.5 ds m⁻¹ salinity, resulted in reductions in shoot fresh and dry weight (25.13% and 23.7%, respectively) and in the contents of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc, and copper (5.3%, 4.39%, 16.21%, 28.5%, 20.4%, 35.5%, and 18.5%, respectively). application of potassium phosphite at 1.5 g l⁻¹, compared with 6 ds m⁻¹ salinity, increased the contents of potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen, iron, copper, and zinc (18.3%, 31.11%, 15.15%, 44.4%, 56.9%, and 57.19%, respectively), shoot fresh and dry weight (56.9% and 54.4%, respectively), and root fresh and dry weight (12.5% and 10.8%, respectively). overall, application of potassium phosphite at 1.5 g l⁻¹ improved morphological characteristics and nutrient uptake and reduced the adverse effects of salinity stress in lime.
