Abstract    to investigate the growth and development characteristics, quality, yield, and antioxidant capacity of 'aromas' strawberry under different levels of electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution based on changes in macronutrient concentrations (ec = 0.65–1.3 ds m⁻¹) and cultivation system (greenhouse and open field), a factorial experiment was conducted based on a randomized complete block design with four replications. during the experiment, various growth and development, quality, and biochemical parameters were evaluated. based on the experimental results, most of the evaluated traits showed an increasing trend with increasing ec of the nutrient solution. accordingly, leaf dry weight (53.6 g), vitamin c content (49.5 mg per 100 ml of juice), and the activities of sod, pod, and cat enzymes (0.46, 0.31, and 0.36 μmol min⁻¹ g⁻¹ fresh weight, respectively) significantly increased with increasing nutrient solution ec from 0.65 to 1.3 ds m⁻¹. on the other hand, under open-field conditions, anthocyanin content (14.52 mg per 100 g fresh weight), vitamin c content (51.99 mg per 100 ml juice), flavor index (13.19), phenolic content (84.01 mg gallic acid per 100 g fresh weight), and flavonoid content (2.26 mg quercetin per g dry weight) were higher than those under greenhouse conditions. the activities of antioxidant enzymes were also higher in plants grown under open-field conditions. however, specific leaf area and yield were higher in plants grown under greenhouse conditions at an ec of 1.3 ds m⁻¹. based on the experimental results, soilless cultivation of strawberry under open-field conditions was successful; moreover, quality indices that are highly important to consumers significantly increased compared with fruits produced under the greenhouse system.
