   the effect of computer assisted language on efl learners’ speaking skill: the case of skype

چکیده    This study aimed at examining the effect of using skype application on improving iranian efl learners’ speaking skill. to reach this objective, 50 intermediate respondents were chosen among 85 iranian efl learners based on the results of the oxford quick placement test (oqpt). the target participants were randomly assigned to two equal groups; experimental and control. then, a speaking test was given to both groups as the pre-test of the study. after that, the experimental group received the instruction through using a call-based instruction. the experimental group was exposed to five conversations through skype application. on the other hand, the participants of the control group were deprived of receiving instruction through skype application. the conversations were taught to the control group in a conventional way- in a face-to-face class. after the treatment, a speaking post-test was given to the students in order to determine the effect of the treatment on their speaking improvement. the collected data were analyzed by utilizing independent samples and paired samples t-tests and the gained findings showed that the experimental participants outflanked the control participants in the speaking post-test. finally, the implications and the conclusions of the results were explained at the end of the research
