   a text-driven approach to developing localized english language teaching materials

چکیده    The global spread of english and its key role in maintaining transnational communication has resulted in a surge in the global demand for learning this lingua franca. up to this date, publishers located in english speaking countries such as the united states and the united kingdom has largely met this demand. however, the promotion of anglo-american culture and ideology through these books has caused criticisms from scholars, teachers, and learners from other countries. this study describes the process of developing localized english language teaching materials based on research findings and tomlinson’s text-driven approach. these materials were uploaded on an online platform where language teachers could choose the ones they deemed more suitable for their teaching environment. this website is a form of open educational resource which its potential in materials design and development is underresearched. it is argued that this online platform can be a solution to the possible cultural problems caused by global english language teaching coursebooks because such materials are better suited to learner needs, are more motivating for teachers and learners, and can create the necessary opportunities for the creation of intercultural communicative competence. in addition, costs related to the development and publishing of materials uploaded on this study’s online platform can be better managed, and this, in turn, translates into better marketing capability. finally, opportunities for selection and personalization provide room for management risk-taking.
