چکیده    Literary works and intellectuals’ endeavour have always stood as the landmark of revelation of the common themes of their time and era. deploying action research approach and via the use of reader response theory approach to literature, this article basing its approach on students’s reflecive essays, text and context analysis of the work, initially, has scrutinized harper lee’s novel to kill a mocking bird to assess the writer’s tact in the illustration of cultural expressions through the manifestation of their underlying origins. thereafter, it has also tried to illustrate how the writer has manifested the dominant culture of her time and racism as the commonly practiced trend, via the introduction of causes and clues orininatind and referring to diverse sources to awaken efl to- be students’ consciousness and apply it of both language learning and teaching. the subjects were twenty two farhangian university to-be-teacher students in ilam. the analysis of the learners’ written and stated comments and ideas was carried out via max qda program.the article regarding the two questions revealed the writer’s tact in deploying characterization and theme elements of fiction to capture her intended vision. it also shows how the writer has given rise to the manifestation of racism as tangible offshoot of culture introduced in her novel. implicitly, it also confirmed the rich content of the fiction to be utilized as authentic material for teaching linguistic and cultural purposes in educational setting from non native english learners’ view point.
