   transformation over different editions of passages 1: a mixed-methods research

چکیده    Based on the fact that these days the number of non-native english users vastly outnumbers the number of native english users, there is a necessity for content development in the area of textbooks. global english learning textbooks have gone through numberless studies, but few studies have so far considered the changes among different editions of the same series of textbooks. the current study meticulously examined the three editions of the well-known global english textbook passages 1 by employing a content analysis approach. furthermore, the current study took out the opinions of experienced teachers through semi-structured interviews. the findings of the interview and content analysis evinced that, contrary to what the authors of english language teaching books claimed, very few content modifications were evident in various editions of passages 1. what’s more is that most of these modifications were pertinent to the appearance of the books to make the books more attractive and little modifications were done to the methodology of the books. according to the experienced teachers viewpoints, the lion s share of these modifications could be classified under categories such as being up to date, the rivalry between different institutes, and grabbing students’ attention. the findings of the study had some implications for curriculum developers, language institutes, english teachers, english learners, and their parents.
