چکیده
|
Literature has always been a source of inspiration and entertainment for learners and readers. many intellectuals have presented different models for teaching literature and its utilization. this paper, based on mixed method approach, has surveyed carter and long’s literature teaching models including language model, culture model, and the personal growth model (1991) to show their effects on academic students’ cultural understanding and awareness. the subjects were both male and female first year undergraduate students getting trained to become the english language teachers in moddaress and imam-jafare-sadegh farhagian university campuses. the data analysis results revealed the formation of cultural awareness and understanding in the learners’ minds whose degree differed due to the nature of the models to which they were exposed. this helped the students come up with the ideas concerning culture and cultural elements of the language which formed the major objective of their future career. the selection of the appropriate literature teaching model enable them to learn the english language more native like and deploy literature at the service of english learning and their future teaching. the incorporation of literature into the process of teaching and thinking in the classroom was highly welcomed by all the participants due to its alluring attractions. among the three models, the personal model growth’s out performance over the other two would lead to the development of a sort of culture understanding.
