Many private english institutes have been established in iran. however, some of them are not successful in meeting english learners needs and interests. so, recognizing the features of unsuccessful english institutes can be advantageous to improve english language learning and teaching. in this case, the study aimed at choosing an unsuccessful institute in ardabil, iran, according to its acceptance and popularity to find out why it is believed to be unsuccessful in comparison to other institutes. to do this, the study employed a case study. during a term, a class from the institute was studied by focusing on its teacher s teaching methods and parents involvement, management and supervision, syllabus, and textbooks. in parallel with this, various data collection methods including interviews, observations, and documents were used. the results of the study revealed some factors which make the institute fail. they include weak four skills instructions, weak subskills instructions, weak assessment, teacher-oriented learners, disregarding the lesson plans, lack of technologies, weak students positions, unqualified teachers, weak teacher training courses, socio-economic factors, and students background and heterogeneity were the main features. it is very important for all the institutes to consider these issues to avoid them and prepare good learning situations for their language learners.
