چکیده

The main purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of using picture books in teaching vocabulary learning knowledge to iranian efl learners.the materials used in this study. the learners’ text book, i.e., active reading 2 (prospect 2) used in the curriculum for the experimental and the control groups was picture dictionary’s book (carolyn graham,2007).the participants of this study were selected 40 participants out of 60 iranian students based on the results of oxford quick placement test (oqpt). their age ranged from 12 to 14. they were selected in two intact classes and they were randomly divided into two identical groups, one group was experimental group (n=20) and the other one was the control group (n=20).data will be analyzed through independent and paired samples t-test employed to see if there are significant differences between the experimental and control groups. the statistical method is done through descriptive and inferential statistics through ibm spss version 17.the results of paired and independent samples t-tests indicated that the experimental group outperformed the control group on the post-test. it was revealed that teaching through picture books resulted in better vocabulary learning.the main limitation of the study was the time we had available. we predict that a longer period for data collection would have allowed us to assess the words students could recall in the medium and long term. the results of this study suggest that next studies examine the effects of picture-books on other skills and sub-skills of english.
