This study compared the effects of fully online instruction and inverted instruction on enhancing iranian efl learners’ speaking skill. to do this, 60 iranian intermediate efl learners from pars english language institute ofizeh, khuzestan, iran were selected. then, they were randomly divided into three groups: two experimental and one control. they were pre-tested by a researcher-made speaking test. then, the treatment was practiced on the three groups. as the treatment, one experimental group received the treatment only online by using the skype application. on the other hand, the participants in the second experimental group were trained seven conversations by an inverted instruction. the control group was taught the same conversations in a traditional classroom. the traditional classroom was deprived of the internet and the students were taught in the classroom rather than out of the classroom. in the last session, all groups took the researcher-made speaking post-test. the results showed that there was a significant difference between the performance of the experimental groups and the control group on the post-test. the findings indicated that the online instruction and the inverted instruction developed iranian efl learners’ speaking skill equally. finally, implications arising from the findings and suggestions for further research were explained.
