چکیده    The main purpose of this study was to demonstrate how iran s recently published efl textbooks (prospect series) ideologically portrayed an islamic state and the motivations behind these islamic-related ideologies inclusion in the textbooks. in order to achieve this, a mixed-method content analysis of the books textual and visual content was carried out using ramirez and halls (1990) model. in order to obtain professional opinions on the subject, interviews with both experienced and novice teachers were also conducted. based on the results of quantitative analysis, the islamic aspects received the greatest percentage of attention in both the textual and visual components. additionally, the qualitative analysis showed that the inclusion of these islamic examples was motivated by five ideologies including clothing style, physical interaction, women-at-home-men outside, ideologies related to islam, and ideologies related to the islamic republic, all of which were fully explained in the paper. finally, the findings of the teachers interview indicated that these theocratic-related ideologies were absurd, excessive, and unnecessary and should be either curtailed or eliminated. this study assisted material creators in adapting the books visual and textual content to make them more nationalized and relevant to iran s context. another implication was that teachers should use additional materials to make sure that students were learning about iranian culture as well as other aspects of culture from around the world.
