a qualitative account of writers’ perceptions of interactional meta-discourse markers application in theses

Sadeq hedayat is one of the most celebrated iranian writers of the 20th century.obsession with despair, pessimism and death are clearly discernible in hisworks and conduct. we attempt to take a systematic stylistic look at one of hismost confusing works, three drops of blood, and decipher some of its themesand symbols as well as the author s worldview. stylistics is the study of distinctive styles found in particular literary genres and in the works of individual writers. it is a linguistic approach to the study of literary texts. stylistics embodies an essential part of the general course, namely the combination of linguistics and literary studies. within a text, it is possible to examine more closely how language serves a particular artistic function. in short stories, style can reveal much about the author s intentions and worldview. a stylistic analysis of a short story entails an understanding of the style of the writer, the types of imagery, patterns, symbolism, incongruity, suspense, surprise ending, irony, satire and the like used in the short story. by examining the linguistic devices of hedayat s story, such as lexis and idioms, we would conclude that the story is a psychological narrative full of death, despair and pessimism themes.
