synthesis and characterization of modified polyisobutylene-based oil-soluble dispersants from polyisobutylene succinimides

Alkenyl succinimides with different alkyl chain lengths were synthesized employing   polyisobutylene in this research, detergent/dispersant type additives were also synthesized based on polyisobutylene succinic anhydride (pibsa) and its aminated compounds (pibsi) with tetraethylenepentamine (tepa). the prepared pibsa and pibsi characterized by ftir, 1h-nmr, and gpc spectroscopies were greatly complicated because of the interactions between the carbonyls of the succinimide groups and unreacted secondary amines of the mb-pibsi dispersants. therefore, an alternative procedure was developed based on fluorescence quenching of the succinimides by secondary amines and urethane groups.
