چکیده    Poly(lactic) acid (pla) nonwoven surface was activated by grafting of acrylic acid (aa) through four different methods including redox reaction, photografting under ultraviolet (uv) irradiation, oxygen and air plasma to select an appropriate method of aa-grafting on pla for further modification through layer-by-layer technique. weight changes, adsorption spectroscopy, water contact angles, and ftir analysis methods were utilized to confirm aa grafting. pla showed higher weight gain and better dye adsorption when they were grafted through redox reaction and uv-photografting. average water contact angle of neat pla was around 115.65± 1.42, and after aa-grafting hydrophilicity increased and water droplets immediately absorb (for four activation methods). in addition, presence of new peak at around 1617 and 1647 cm-1 correspondence to c=o and wide peak around 3000-3600 cm-1 and 2800-3030 cm-1 correspondence to o-h and ch2 can be attributed to successful acrylic acid grafting on pla, respectivley. in conclusion, redox reaction and uv-photografting methods were selected to activate the inert surface of pla for further layer-by-layer modification with poly(acrylic acid) and poly(amidoamine) dendrimer for a potential medical application.
