چکیده    Background & objective: primary cesarean deliveries are becoming more common; women are having a history of prior cs in greater numbers. globally, the incidence of cesarean section (cs) has risen, resulting in a greater proportion of women with prior uterine scars. the objective of the research was to assess if vaginal birth after cs (vbac) was feasible and successful in certain cases of previous lower segment cs (lscs). materials & methods: place and duration of study is department of obstetrics & gynaecology, al-diwaniyah teaching hospital for maternity & children from june 2021 to february 2022. one hundred and twenty pregnant women with a history of one lower segment caesarean section were enrolled. results: according to reports, 67.5% of the women involved in the study gave birth spontaneously through vaginal delivery, while 32.5% had to have a recurrent lower segment cesarean procedure. the overall participation count is 120. also, among the 39 cases included in the current study that had intentions to be repeated, the causes of repeated cesarean sections were as follows: (a) undiagnosed cephalopelvic disproportion (5.12%), (b) scar dehiscence (23.07%), (c) fetal distress (38.46%), and (d) labor abnormalities including extended active phase, cervical dystocia, and poor head rotation. the recorded rates for prolonged active phase, deep transverse arrest, occipito-posterior position, cervical dystocia, preeclampsia, and other medical diseases were 7.69%, 5.12%, 5.12%, and 10.25% respectively. conclusion: most patients with one previous css can give birth vaginally without causing any major problems for mothers or infants. it is a safe alternative to elective cs, as evidenced by studies.
