Politeness, socially acceptable behavior in a proper manner, still becomes one of the major concerns in elt. this paper aims to review and look at the relationships between english students motivation and politeness strategies proposed by brown and levinson s theory. this research is based on a number of empirical research about the relationship between politeness on students motivation at a distance, published between 2018 and 2022. the data of these researches were gathered through descriptive qualitative data. observation, video-recorded, and interviews were the instrument used in this research. according to methodology, types of contexts, participants, and instruments varied from one paper to another. positive politeness, negative politeness, baled on the record, and off records are the four sorts of brown and levinson s theory. in conclusion, the result of this review has revealed that politeness is significant in maintaining relationships and creating a comfortable environment in elt. further, the students will be motivated by teachers politeness strategies based on these studies not only grammatically correct but also appropriately and politely according to the context and situation. the findings of this research indicate that different types of phrases such as greeting, thanks, etc. are used by english students in regard to politeness strategies. in a special community like the classroom, politeness must be implemented since rudeness creates conflicts between teachers and students. it means that politeness is used in classroom interaction to build good relationships between teachers and students.
