چکیده    World englishes refers to the english language used all over and throughout the world for international communication, including all of its regional varieties. world englishes means that the different forms and varieties of english used in various sociolinguistic contexts in different parts of the world. nowadays the global and worldwide use of english language has promoted the gradual development of world english (we) and english as a lingua franca (elf) which have brought about certain challenges to traditional notions and concepts of english education. it is generally and extensively known that the english language has immediately spread throughout the world and is now used for a wide range of purposes. its status as a national / foreign language has shifted to that of an international language. in this essay, after characteristics of we and elf are integrated, implications on english teaching and learning will be clarified. in conclusion, the aim of comprehensibility, contextualized teaching and the selection of local bilingual teachers with high proficiency and competence, all of which result from influence and impact of we and elf, should be promoted in english education. finally, the study’s implications for the four aspects of eil including the current status of english, english varieties, multicultural communication strategies, and the identity of english speakers are also discussed, along with limitations and recommendations for future research.
