   the effect of recast on iranian intermediate efl female learners’ grammar learning

چکیده    The significant role of corrective feedback (cf) in second or foreign language learning is acknowledged by many researchers in the field of english language teaching. however, language learners often have grammatical problems due to some factors influencing the learning of grammar rules such as incorrect understanding of grammar and incorrect procedures of teaching grammar rules by teachers and as a result, lead to communication breakdown. so far, a lot of studies have been done on the effect of cf on grammar learning; however, the number of experimental research on recasts is limited. the present study, therefore, aimed to investigate the effects of recasts on iranian efl female learners grammar learning. accordingly, two intact classes including 20 female intermediate students ranging in age from 20 to 30 in safir english language academy in gorgan, golestan province, iran, were selected through convenience sampling. the design of the study was quasi-experimental. oxford quick placement test (oqpt) was administered to make sure that learners were homogenous in terms of their overall language proficiency. afterwards a pretest was carried out before the treatment, which included 30 grammar multiple choice items. then, participants in the experimental group received recasts in each session of a 10-session course. while in the control group, students received no recast at all. after the course, both groups took the posttest. the results of independent samples t-test indicated that recast does not affect grammar learning. the findings of this study benefit teachers, learners, and material developers in choosing and designing more effective tasks to achieve better results in teaching and grammar learning.
