Given the fact that content is the most important element in any elt program, vision series, the newly developed textbooks in high school, have called researchers and teachers’ attention. in the same vein, skills and the relevant activities are still under investigation. based on the findings of recent studies and content analysis of the series, despite the central feature and clt, the textbooks should be modified. considering the role of reading as one of the major sources of input in an efl context, this study set out to probe the impact of dart (directed activities related to text) model reading multimedia on iranian high school students’ reading comprehension and reading components. to achieve the goal, 60 students in first grade of a public high school in urmia were selected on the basis of an availability sampling procedure. due to online learning, both experimental and control groups received reading instructions through teacher made multimedia. the control group was only taught according to the teacher guide. in the meantime, the experimental group was also instructed some active reading tasks according to dart model (prediction classified in reconstruction activities; text marking, labeling, pupil-generated questions classified in analysis activities) for 10 sessions. the groups were given a reading test from preliminary english test (pet) before and after the experiment. at the outset of the study, a t-test was utilized to check homogeneity of the groups. to further analyze the data and determine the effect of the treatment, one way mancova was used. the results demonstrated a link between employing the model and students’ achievement in reading comprehension and reading components. the findings of this study have practical implications for teachers. teachers are proposed to devise creative lesson plans and adopt innovative teaching methods and effective tools which support learning and develop learners’ reflection.
