   a 360-degree evaluation method of english language teachers in iran's public schools: case of english language teachers' recruitment system

چکیده    There are speculations about the effectiveness and quality of the public schools' teachers recruitted through different employment methods. a 360-degree evaluation method for teachers or educators is a shift from the traditional one-on-one performance evaluation process and may yield outcomes to assist us in the matter. in this study, english language teachers of different recruitment methods, including teachers who graduated from farhangian university, hourly-paid teachers, teachers who have passed the employment test, and other english language teachers working in public schools were evaluated by school principals, students, teachers’ leaders and the teachers themselves. adopted, localized and validated online questionnaires were employed and distributed via convinience sampling complemented by extensive interviews. kruskal-wallis test was conducted to analyze the data. the results show differences as to the evaluation scores of 401 teachers and 1189 students. 77 principles of the public schools and 73 english teachers' leaders see no difference in respect to the teachers' recruitment method. to complete our 360-degree evaluation method, altogether 448 minutes of interview sessions were conducted. applying maxqda, the qualitative data were coded and analyzed where several factors were discovered namely features of the best teacher, personal characteristics of the teacher, teacher's conscientiousness, job satisfaction, the teacher's motivation over time, characteristics of teachers, macro and micro policy set by the ministry of education, teachers’ daily preparation before school, satisfaction with income, cooperation of> schools with the new teachers, teacher internship, and the quality of trainings for the article 28 teachers all of which helped to deepen our understanding of the current research. this study as the first study of its kind in iran, may bring insight on how effective can diverse teacher recruitment systems better satisfy the requirements of the teachers’ recruitment leading to a more cost-effective teacher training and recruitment policy system throughout the country.
