an orderly chaos: towards a critical reading of bertolt brecht’s the caucasian chalk circle

Before the advent of modernism and postmodernism, prodigious literary works were often analyzed through the established traditional methods. by the coming of the new era, the use of the older theories fell out of favor by the newer literary artists, whose innovative works opened new gateways to interdisciplinary studies and became successful in connecting the most unrelated fields with each other. the present research discusses the need to analyze a specific literary work, the caucasian chalk circle by bertolt brecht which was clearly influenced by the chaos theory, but equally fell outside the categories suggested by previous theoretical approaches to literature and any scientific theory. brecht’s works and his inventive use of the “alienation technique” was recognized as an effective factor in transferring the social ills of his community to the audience, and as a controversial playwright, he was known as the disturbance of peace. however, the other dimensions of his work stayed aloof from the literary spectrum of his time, until recently, when the scholars in the fields of new sciences established a connection between the literary works of brecht’s types, and other scientific theories. a newly established method as the chaos theory unravels the often-neglected aspects of brecht’s play and in the further stages, creates a vivid perspective of what brecht himself had in his mind while writing this work. his messages about the fall of the unjust social systems were regarded as the apex of his dramatic career, but the more significant aspect that was not evident to the reviewers, was the dawn of a new age, deprived of the previously chaotic systems that were now, replaced by an orderly justice bound world.
