translation assessment of legal discursive structures in jcpoa

This study intended to study the translation of legal discursive structures in the joint comprehensive plan of action (jcpoa) and their significance in the production, maintenance, and change of particular relations of power. to do so, the researcher benefited from fairclough’s model. the results revealed that the persian translated text (sl) consisted of untranslated and omitted sections. accordingly, this omission has been the source errors in the translation. the error analysis results in the discourse practice level revealed that the error rate was a total of 11 percent in persian translation, which is significant (p>0.05) for persian translation. on the other hand, the social practice level showed that the english terms and words were used in persian translation with no explanation. however, based on fairclough’s model of cda, there was a significant difference between discourse knowledge produced by the persian versus english legal discursive structures of jcpoa. this variation was 6.00% for english verbs (30.8% english versus 24.8% persian) and 1.6% for english adjectives/ adverbs/ nouns (13.8% english versus 12.2% persian). in response to the questions raised in this study, it was revealed that: (1) there is a significant difference between knowledge produced by english and persian legal discourses provided in the original and official persian translations of jcpoa, based on fairclough’s cda model (including genre, discourse, and style), (2) on the basis of the participants in published articles in the new york times, tehran times, and hamshahri online between 2015 and 2018, the persian translation of the original jcpoa underestimated jcpoa's role in production, maintenance, and change in relations of power in iran.
