Without a doubt, the recent tendency in the implementation of mobile devices in language learning and teaching has led to the development of mobile-assisted language learning (mall). owing to distance learning and the covid-19 pandemic, the need for more english educational tools is evident. consequently, evaluating the constraints and affordances of these supplementary tools has been widely considered to be important for instructors. although the field of supplementary language learning applications has significantly developed in recent years, their evaluation has not been fully explored. hence, this study is aimed to investigate the potential appropriateness and possible shortcomings of mall application, namely mondly from efl learners’ perspectives. to do so, drawing on reinders and pegrum’s (2015) framework and descriptive statistics, the study attempted to evaluate mondly regarding the assumptions of this framework. a total of 62 iranian efl learners were recruited through convenience sampling. one session was devoted to training learners on how to use this app; ten sessions were allocated for utilizing mondly’s website and the app on their mobile phones to practice learning english. along the same lines, one session was allocated to report their experience of using the app by responding to a questionnaire. the results indicated that mondly has potential implications for efl language learning. the app has tried to focus on activities related to the real-world environment, which is congruent with a notion of situated learning in which collaborative activities can be interpreted as a social-constructivist approach. however, some features, e.g., collaborative activities are not available in the non-vr version of mondly. mall applications are utilized inside or outside of educational settings collaboratively or individually to empower learners anytime and anywhere. this evaluation can be instrumental to the adaptation of appropriate apps for a specific purpose and contribute to enhancing the quality of mall applications.
