   investigation of the efficacy of β-caryophyllene against cadmium-induced lung damage in rats

چکیده    In recent years, increasing industrialization has introduced many different toxic chemicals into our lives. one of the most common and toxic of these chemicals in nature is cadmium (cd). since cd causes various toxications in many living things, especially humans, many natural compounds are used to reduce its effect. in this study, the protective activity of β-caryophyllene (bcp) against the toxic effect of cd in rat lung tissues was investigated. in the study, 50 wistar albiona rats were divided into 5 groups; control, cd (6.5 mg/kg), bcp200+cd, bcp400+cd and bcp400. at the end of the 7-day study, lung tissues of the rats were taken and examined by elisa, histopathological and immunohistochemical methods. it was observed that cd caused increases in mda, 8-ohdg and tnf-α levels and decreases in superoxide dismutase, glutathione and catalase levels in lung tissues, while these levels approached normal values with bcp administration. in the study, it was observed that bcp suppressed the oxidative stress and inflammation caused by cd in lung tissues. in the light of these results, it was concluded that bcp might be a strong protective agent in cd-induced lung toxicity.
