Abstract    the phillips curve offers a highly restrictive policy implication; namely, there is a downward relationship between the unemployment rate and the inflation rate, and this relationship is so stable that the policymaker has no choice but to choose between targeting low inflation or low unemployment. so far, numerous doubts and criticisms have been raised about the existence and stability of this trade-off, the most recent is related to the post-2008 financial crisis, based on which some have spoken of the death of the phillips curve. in this regard, this paper estimates the inflation-unemployment trade-off for the periods before and after the 2008 global financial crisis. it examines the relationship of this trade-off with financial development. an augmented phillips curve with financial development is estimated for 31 developing and developed countries using the rolling auto-regressive distributed lags (rardl) method. the findings suggest that economies that have chosen the right path for financial development have been able to overcome the limitations of their policy possibility frontier after the crisis and achieve both low inflation and low unemployment simultaneously. in contrast, developing economies, such as iran, have not experienced a significant and balanced improvement in financial development and, as a result, the trade-off has intensified or not disappeared.
