financial globalization and environmental sustainability in iran: a bfgc-q approach

Authors golkhandan abolghasem
Abstract    the present study's main objective is to investigate financial globalization's role in environmental sustainability in iran. accordingly, the causal effect of financial globalization, de facto financial globalization, and de jure financial globalization, along with the variables controlling economic growth, oil consumption, and economic policy uncertainty, on the new load capacity factor (lcf) index, which simultaneously considers the supply and demand of nature, has been investigated by applying the new approach of bootstrap fourier granger causality in quantile (bfgc-q) during the years 1978-2022. this approach, unlike previous grangerian causality tests, takes into account the issue of non-linearity and structural breaks and can provide useful information about a causal-tail relationship. the results show that financial globalization, de facto financial globalization, and de jure financial globalization have no significant causal relationship with lcf in all quantiles (10th-90th). gdp has led to a decrease in lcf in all quantiles except the final quantile (10th-70th). oil consumption in all quantiles (10th-90th) has a negative and significant causal relationship with lcf. economic policy uncertainty has also led to decreased lcf in all quantiles except the first quantile (30th-90th). the robustness of the results has also been confirmed by using the fourier adl cointegration test and the fmols estimator with the fourier approximation. accordingly, it can be said that although financial globalization and its two operational and legal dimensions have not contributed to environmental sustainability in the country, they are not considered a threat to it either.
