the role of shi’a figures in the development of 'irfan, islamic philosophy, and humanities in indonesia

Abstractthis research departs from contemporary needs regarding the development of the mystical, rational, and empirical dimensions of islam. this need then raises issues of ideology and interests of science activists who must be in line with the disciplines being developed. in this context, shi’a teachings that are thick with mystical, rational, and scientific features are the ideological basis that gives birth to the scientific commitment and sufficient interest for adherents to be actively involved in sciences of a similar style. in global context, history has proven this. however, in the specific context of indonesia, there has been no research that has attempted to explain the actual role of shi'a figures in the development of 'irfan, islamic philosophy, and humanities within the framework of islam. this paper answers that question. the main result is that the shi'a made a positive contribution to the development of the 'irfan, rational and scientific dimensions of islam. this is evidenced by the various important roles of indonesian shi'a figures in writing, publishing, and managing scientific institutions in the fields of islamic philosophy, ‘irfan, and islamic humanities.
