گردشگری جنگ نوعی از گردشگری است که هدف از آن بازدید از مناطق جنگی و کاوش در خاطرات زمان جنگ است. این نوع از گردشگری در حیطه گردشگری فرهنگی قرار می گیرد و از شاخصه های تخصصی و با اهمیت گردشگری است که با نشان دادن ویرانی های ناشی از جنگ علاوه بر بیدار کردن حس جنگ ستیزی و عواطف بشر دوستانه در گردشگران به حفظ تاریخ معنوی و حماسی یک کشور کمک می کند. استان خوزستان یکی از استان های اصلی در مسیر جنگ بوده است که آثار جنگ در این منطقه به عنوان جاذبه گردشگری مطرح می شود. جنگ تحمیلی رژیم بعث عراق علیه جمهوری اسلامی ایران از جمله جنگ هایی است که در تاریخ، آثار، حماسه ها و رشادت های آن ثبت شده است و برای گردشگران جذابیت های خاص خود را دارد. کشور ایران با توجه به سابقه هشت ساله در این زمینه دارای پتانسیل های بالایی است و هر ساله کاروان های بی شماری از بازدیدکنندگان با انگیزه های مختلف اقدام به بازدید از مناطق جنگی خوزستان و باغ موزه های جنگ واقع در این مناطق می کنند. سالانه میلیون ها گردشگر از مکان های تاریخی مربوط به جنگ در سراسر دنیا بازدید می کنند و پیش بینی شده است گردشگری جنگ در قرن 21 نه تنها یک زیر مجموعۀ مهم در گردشگری تلخ خواهد بود، بلکه خود تبدیل به یکی از انواع پرطرفدار گردشگری در جهان خواهد شد. این نوع گردشگری از جمله فعالیت های خدماتی است که در سال های اخیر با سرعت زیادی توسعه یافته است. امروزه بسیاری از مناطق جنگی تبدیل به مکان هایی برای گردشگری دفاع مقدس شده است مانند بیمارستان صحرایی علی ابن ابی طالب(ع) که جزو مهم ترین و مجهزترین بیمارستان های صحرایی در طول هشت سال دفاع مقدس محسوب می شد. اکنون این بیمارستان در ردیف آثار ملی دفاع مقدس قرار گرفته است و به یکی از محل های بازدید و اسکان گردشگران تبدیل شده است. در زمینه گردشگری دفاع مقدس تحقیقات اندکی انجام گرفته و منابع موجود در این زمینه محدود است. لذا برخود لازم دانستیم تا در این پژوهش به بررسی بیشتر این نوع گردشگری و اهمیت آن و آشنایی بیشتر با بیمارستان صحرایی علی ابن ابی طالب(ع) که امروزه به آثار ملی جنگ تبدیل شده است بپردازیم.
