گردشگری خلاق، مفهومی جدیدتر در گردشگری است که به جویندگی و تلاش برای کسب تجارب جدید و مشارکت در جامعه مقصد اشاره دارد. اقامتگاه ها مهمترین الزام ونیاز سفر و گردشگری هستند.در گردشگری سنتی، اقامتگاه ها اعم از هتل ها یا بومخانه ها، بیشترجایی برای ماندن هستند. اما در گردشگری خلاق، نقش اقامتگاه ارتقا می یابد تاجایی که اقامتگاه خلاق متولد می شود.اقامتگاه خلاق، جایگاهی است که ضمن حفظ ویژگی های معمول اقامتگاههای بومگردی سنتی،بتواند نیازها و خواسته های گردشگران خلاق را نیز برآورده سازد و به عنوان چیزی فراتر از یک اقامتگاه صرف، به مثابه یک خانواده، نمودی از مختصات اصلی جامعه محلی خود به شمار آیند. این مقاله ضمن بررسی این ویژگیها، شامل معرفی 5 نوع بومخانه خلاق( اکوریزورت ها، بومخانه های نمونه، بومخانه های مبتنی بر جوامع کوچک، اکوکمپها، بومخانه های دهگردی و مزارع گردشگری)، بررسی عملکرد و کارکردهای بومخانه ها و همچنین بررسی ویژگیهای اصلی بومخانه ها (طراحی بر اساس مفاهیم بومی، مدیریت و بهره برداری، هویت ،برند سازی،خوراک های بومی ، مسئولیت اجتماعی و زیست محیطی، توصیه ها، الزامات و مقررات زیست محیطی، راهنمایان بومی، هزینه ها، خدمات رفاهی و آیین ها و مناسک بومی) می باشد.
