Aim and background: skin is one of the most important tissues in human body.polymer-based nanocomposites have made significant advances in skin tissue engineering in recent years.as a result, this research aims to fabricate and characterize a nanofibrous composite with antibacterial activities to prevent infections and enhance wound healing.methods: nano-scaled layered double hydroxide(ldh) loaded with mupirosin(mup) was incorporated into polyvinyl alcohol(pva) nanofibers. the unloaded ldh and mupirocin-loaded ldh were synthesized by co-precipitation and were added to the pva solution in different mass ratios.the blends were subjected to different electrospinning processing conditions of 10,15 and 20kv applied voltages and 10 and 15cm distances. results and discussion: the morphology of nanocomposites was evaluated using sem,eds and ftir spectra.sem results showed that increasing the strength of the electric field reduced the diameter of the nanofibers,which was confirmed by ftir spectra.the sem results showed that increasing the strength of the electric field reduced the diameter of the nanofibers.sem analysis revealed bead-less and uniform morphology of the nanofibrous composite containing pure polyvinyl alcohol nanofibers are around 485±124nm with the increase of different percentages,and with the increase of different percentages of ldh,the morphology and size of nanofibers decreased. the uniform distribution of ldh in nanofibers has been confirmed by eds analysis. mupirocin increases the uniform distribution of ldh in nanofibers,and ftir spectra revealed all specific peaks of pva and ldh in blend nanofibrous webs.conclusion: the physical characterizations, it can be concluded that the mup/ldh loaded pva nanofibrous web would be a promising structure for drug delivery and wound dressing applications.
